Rowing Champion in air – Is this still sailing ?
December 18th, 2011 - Last modified: 23. April 2012 @ 14:20

P.J. Postma lost the title by the way, Hoegh-Christensen as the Medal Race at the pumps ran out of steam, Giles Scott was so rush by him !See the above video from 1:00 !Giles won the title with only 1 Point before P.J.
In view of the blog-article desSegelreporter – “Rowing Champion in air”- We see Giles Scott “ape-long” Poor, i.e.. very long arms, they need to effectively pump.
The issue, whether it is right, which is dominant in a particular phenotype Finn sailing and flapping the races on the Vorwindgängen, d-h. be decided sail atypical, must therefore be ensured.

Finn Gold Cup 2012 - Entries now open

As an old Finn – Recreational athletes – actually no particular interest in elite sports – I am thrilled by both the summary and the full version of the Finn medal race, with respect to the recording technique, the average (Mimic the supposed girlfriend!!), the tactical overlays and with respect to the sensational surf finish in front of the audience.
Title and comment, however, seem to me as from another movie to come.
I see an impressive ride to surf respective one- to two-time scribe of the sail. A “Air Rowing” in terms of permanent or primary propulsion source I can not recognize. More impressive is expressly permitted “Surfing” to show little.
I do not see any “ape with long arms” (m.E. borderline marking) when “effective pump” but full use of the sealing body tearing the sail in combination with abrupt shifting of weight aft and windward or. Advance of the boat.
Furthermore, I see no finisher, when the “Pump out of breath”, but perfectly successful and completely botched attempts, to put the Finn onto the shaft.
If at some point of the Finn- “Phenotypes” should enforce, it would not untypical in high performance sport. After all, is already the Finn himself as a heavyweight dinghy. The full-lengths can of course continue to ride – if they hold out for. To corroborate the hypothesis about the advantage of long arms of the classic pumps are suitable for these videos but not.
Whether here on “Vorwindgängen flapping, i.e.. untypical sailing” acts is, is m.E. purely a question of taste, First, we should let the older boy's powerful and certainly the second, an effort is due to showmanship.
The latter is, in my view desirable, and this worked perfectly in Perth.

Walter May, Find Legend, Olympian 1972, wrote on pumps 2004 wave in the Finn:

The “ape-long” Arms are thus alluding to the Walter May oavon called “gorilla-like muscle development”.

Pumps with a very long arm – Finn World Champion Giles Scott

The long arms are actually cheaper, can be found in the second inserted by me video.
The issue, whether the preference of large Finn sailing, yes, the Finn sailors restricts the range of potential, may also be made safe. The best Finn sailor weight is almost 20 kg above the average weight of German men, so that has reduced the number of potential finn yachtsman strong. 1985 however, it was still possible with a weight of about. 80 kg, both world champions and German champions to be.

Well Ben Ainslie is not a gorilla and ape-like arms and has no sails, usually in the Finn ahead. I have to give Bernd right with the formulation of borderline.
Ben Ainslie weighs just 90kg to the (http://segelreporter.com/blog/2011/09/20/video-auf-den-spuren-von-elvstroem-ben-ainslie-im-finn-dinghy-fuer-olympia-gesetzt/)and is also only 184cm (6ft according to its own website)
With "gorilla-like muscle development," Walter said in May rather the extent of the upper arm rather than the arm's length.
Who has thin long arms, probably has no chance.
The overtaking in the video is a classic situation beeen at a downwind.
The Briton sails behind the Danes. This is in the wind shadow. The Briton approved two / three clean long trains on sailboat, sits on a wave and let the Danes are in the wind shadow. This is then probably due to the least pressure on the sail can not liberate itself from the shaft and fixed eye by something…
Because several factors come together.

I did not think, that a facetious remark about Giles arm causes such a large response:-)
Characteristic of gorilla arms pacts except the muscle is surely a great arm length in relation to Körpergösse .-)
.
In the video, we can undoubtedly explanation Ennen, the longer arms would be cheaper, even though Ben's arms seem to have no excess length
.
A little stressed out makes an impression Hoegh-Christenbsen compared Postma and Scott incidentally already. This is the way Carsten Kemmling noticed, I quite agree with his impression.

Here we see, that Finn World Champion Giles Scott and Ed Wright PJPostma dominated by several centimeters, and therefore probably has the longest arms, what m.E. also pay at the pump.
.
“Due to his size, Giles decided he was best suited to the Finn Class, to which he made the transition in 2006.”
-
Is known by Ainslie, that he is actually much narrower, However, whenever he wants to again successfully Finn sailing, sich about 10 kg of muscle mass trained. The course helps ride out the Finns, where he probably has a greater endurance than the competition.
.
Perth has also been clearly, that he had problems with the fresh wind, with the 100 compete kg-stretching.

Ben writes: “I am a bit lighter than them so especially upwind they are faster than me. I have to try to hang on close to them and wait for them to make a mistake.” http://www.benainslie.com/news/view/racing_in_perth_back_on_schedule

P.S. The humorous title “Air Rowing” is not the way of me, but by Carsten Kemmling, which portrays itself as follows:

P.S. For those, The one problem with “ape-long” Poor have the name and “borderline” find, and some “strictly” deal with me, I venture, to name one of the following quotes. Indeed, one can with the “ape long arms around quite loosely
